Joint Mobilisations

Joint mobilisations are small repetitive, oscillatory  movements performed by a physiotherapist to regain loss of movement in any joint. They are graded from I - IV which indicates the amount of pressure being applied during the treatment. They are used in the spine, more specifically on the facets joints and all other joints in the body from the hip to the small joints in the hands and feet.

They help to restore the natural movements that occur at the joint surface (gliding and rotating) which can help reduce pain and associated muscle spasm.

This type of treatment should then be followed by appropriate movements or exercises at home to ensure the benefits are maintained.
